Dear Pippa and Ross, Thank you for hosting the Beginning to Write workshop at your wonderful place. Also thanks to Karen Hayes for presenting it so graciously and making it so accessible for total beginners like me, as there were also the more advanced and established writers amongst us, some with an English degree under their belts. This was a bit daunting for me and was feeling a bit nervous beforehand as you might well imagine, but it was all done in a relaxed way with encouragement, support and plenty of of humour, and as I discovered spelling and grammar mistakes didn't seem to matter so much. We were introduced to various writing exercises in creating stories using pictures shown or the use of a first line from a story as a starting point. From then on you just let your creative imagination run riot! Or at least undiminished. The results were remarkable I found,and even pleasantly surprised myself of what came from my pen! We then read out our stories to everyone. Some were delicate and sensitive , while others were totally hilarious and entertaining. I still have to chuckle even now when remembering some of the ideas! The day was pleasantly intercepted with a delicious 3 course meal cooked with great care by Dom, having done her creative bit in the kitchen! This fortified and maintained our body and soul and writing skills even more for the rest of the day. It's not that I've become a brilliant writer in one day (would have been nice), but it has given me some confidence, insight of possibilities and ideas. Thank you Karen for such a nice day. I would like to do it again in the future. Thank you again Pippa and Ross. It makes a difference being in a lovely place like yours!
